ACCIONA Energía has been included for the first time in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) Europe, one of S&P Global's most rigorous and highly valued indices, being placed among the electric utilities with the best environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) practices in the world.
The DJSI ranks ACCIONA Energía as the top Spanish company and the second in the world within the global index for the electric utilities sector, with a total of 87 points out of a possible total score of 100.
The DJSI analysts gave ACCIONA Energía the highest score (96/100) in the environmental dimension for its climate strategy, and the second-best overall score for its focus on sustainable solutions, as well as for its relationship with local communities and stakeholders in the territories in which it operates.
In order to elaborate the DJSI, S&P applies a transparent selection process based on the companies' Global ESG Score, resulting from S&P's annual Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA). The CSA consists of a rigorous questionnaire that evaluates the data submitted by participating companies, as well as their level of transparency. This year, more than 13,000 listed companies were invited to participate in the S&P Global CSA.
The DJSI Europe index, in which ACCIONA Energía has entered for the first time, is now comprised by a total of 151 companies, six of which are electric utilities, out of 554 companies analyzed.
Meanwhile, ACCIONA maintains its position in this year's revision of the global Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World), with a total of 332 listed companies, out of 2,532 invited.
The changes in the indices will be effective as of December 18.
